Yes / No Tarot

The Yes/No Tarot Almanac

The 78 cards of the tarot do not fit neatly into yes-no logic, and any serious reader will say so. But the question gets asked anyway, usually when it is more practical than spiritual: should I take the job, will this conversation go well, is now the right time. This almanac lists every card's yes, no, or maybe verdict, grouped by the strength of the answer rather than by suit. Each entry links to a longer reading of what shifts the verdict, when to trust a single-card draw, and when a second draw is the more honest move.

The verdict taxonomy

The strongest yeses

15 cards

The Major Arcana cards that read as decisive affirmatives. They speak to arrival, fulfilment, recognition, or the moment something long-anticipated comes through. When they appear in a yes-no question they do not leave room for ambivalence: the conditions are met and the answer is unambiguous.

The everyday yeses

43 cards

Minor Arcana cards that lean affirmative in most contexts. Less dramatic than the Major-Arcana yeses, less decisive, but still trending toward a yes when the question is straightforward and conditions are not extraordinary. Read these as probably, with reasonable effort and ordinary timing.

The maybes

9 cards

The cards that refuse to commit. Some are foggy by design (The Moon, The High Priestess) and signal that the question itself is the wrong shape. Others, like the Two of Swords or Seven of Cups, point to indecision in the seeker rather than in the situation. Read these as asking the question differently.

  1. The High Priestess
  2. The Hermit
  3. The Hanged Man
  4. The Moon
  5. Four of Cups
  6. Seven of Cups
  7. Eight of Cups
  8. Two of Swords
  9. Seven of Swords

The everyday noes

8 cards

Minor Arcana cards that lean negative, usually situationally rather than structurally. They point to friction, miscommunication, or a path of diminishing returns. Not catastrophic, but the universe is not handing this one over. Read as probably not, or not in this form, or not yet.

  1. Five of Wands
  2. Five of Cups
  3. Three of Swords
  4. Five of Swords
  5. Eight of Swords
  6. Nine of Swords
  7. Ten of Swords
  8. Five of Pentacles

The strongest noes

3 cards

Three Major Arcana cards: The Tower, Death, The Devil. They are the cards of upheaval, ending, and entanglement. When they appear in a yes-no read they say the structure of the question is itself wrong. The honest answer is not no, try again, but something larger is moving and the question needs to grow with it.

  1. Death
  2. The Devil
  3. The Tower
